Freak storm hits Blacksilo

A powerful Category 4 storm has struck the coastal town of Blacksilo, causing extensive damage and chaos. The storm's strong winds and heavy rains led to flooding and destruction of some property. Many incoming ships were forced to moor further inland away from Blacksilo to escape the violent waves and storm surge. 


Residents are advised to stay tuned to local news and follow updates from emergency services to stay informed about the ongoing situation. Authorities are urging everyone to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines

Child, age 7, missing from shopping centre

Young boy missing, last seen at Romero's strip where he was shopping with his mother among dozens of others in the busy bank holiday weekend rush, a mother is now frantically searching for her lost son as the police have now begun an official search and members of the public are welcome to join the search efforts by enquiring at the local police station. 

Celebrating 30 years of Martha's sweet shop

In a heartwarming celebration, Martha's Sweet Shop, a beloved local confectionery, marks three decades of delightful treats and cherished memories in the charming town of Blacksilo. Since its opening thirty years ago, Martha's Sweet Shop has been a cherished institution, enchanting both young and old with its delectable array of candies, chocolates, and homemade desserts.


Over the years, the shop has become an integral part of the town's identity, with generations of families frequenting its quaint storefront, nestled snugly on a picturesque street corner. As a beacon of sweetness, it has brought joy to countless birthdays, holidays, and special occasions, becoming a cherished symbol of community spirit.


Martha Nevewel, the shop's namesake and founder, fondly recalls the humble beginnings of her sweet venture: "Blacksilo has always been home to me, and I wanted to share my love for baking with as many of the residents of this town as I possibly can." 

Blacksilo mine tragedy memorial service

Six years (January 11th 2001) after the disappearance of Gary Jenkins, Sean Kenna and the Exodus mining team the Blacksilo mining team remembers what they have lost. As the families and friends of those who died gather to remember the unfortunate souls who never returned from their fateful underground expedition, questions linger about the circumstances that led to the team's vanishing deep within the confines of the mine. Despite extensive investigations and search efforts over the years, the families of the miners are unsatisfied with the answers they have been given, leaving an enduring sense of sorrow and intrigue in the hearts of the community as they try to honour the memory of those lost within the depths of Blacksilo mine. The mining company will be holding a memorial get together at The Tempered Lamb pub and all from the local community are welcome to join, the commemoration comes on the birthday of Gary Jenkins, the first miner to go missing. 

The festival of slumber celebrates it's 440th year on record

Steeped in ancient myth and legend this local festival will be celebrating its 440th year on record, the festival is performed every October time with a variety of activities on all throughout the town which provides something to do for the whole family, there are ghost hunts for the braver souls among us and there's a farmers market and fireworks display for the families of Blacksilo.
